We Did It – House Votes to Invest in America!
Friday, July 20, 2007
American families scored an amazing victory on July 19. Thanks to our hard work, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill that begins to re-invest in America. The Labor-Health and Human Services-Education appropriations bill cleared the floor of the House with a solid majority, 276-140.
And the sweetest part about this victory? Fifty-three Republicans joined with us to increase our investment in vital services like child care, job training and Head Start – which means we are within striking distance of overturning President Bush’s threatened veto of this bill.
Why such a bipartisan vote? Because members of Congress listened to us. We called on dozens of specific members of Congress to vote for this bill over the past several weeks. And almost every one of them voted the right way. In particular, New York Rep. James Walsh not only supported the increased investment in the Labor-HHS-Education bill. He actually co-sponsored it.
Now it’s time
to thank the lawmakers who voted our way, and spank those who did not.
