The U.S. House voted 269-142 to invest in vital American services for veterans and children. This overwhelming bipartisan vote is just a few shy of the number needed to override President Bush’s threatened veto. But there’s still time to act! Contact your members of Congress today and urge them to oppose President Bush’s reckless veto threat.
On Tuesday, the United States Senate voted overwhelmingly to fund the vital programs and services that America needs, including job training for veterans, cancer research and Head Start. The chamber passed the Labor-Health and Human Services-Education bill by an overwhelming 75-19. The House overwhelmingly passed the measure last summer.
Now comes the showdown with President Bush, who has vowed to veto the bill. The President says he can’t find the money to invest here in America, even as he continues to spend countless billions in Iraq. The bills will be merged in the next few days and the House will vote soon. Sign the petition urging your member of Congress to invest in America.
